Blaine Worship Leader — Ryan Spiker
Ryan Spiker is as cool as his name would suggest.
A native of Orange County, Cali., he and his wife Kelly (along with their adorable kiddos Atticus, 4, and Finnley, 18 months), relocated to Minnesota from Bellingham, Wa., earlier this month.
Ryan said they’re enjoying getting settled, learning about Minnesota, and the anticipation of starting the routine of regular life. (Like joining a small group!)
But right now, he’s looking forward to this weekend: the opening of Eagle Brook — Blaine.
“The Blaine campus is going to have a great impact on that community. There’s nothing like Eagle Brook around there,” Ryan said. “I’m also really stoked on the diversity of people in Blaine. I want to see people come to know God in a real way. I’m excited about that.”
A former coffee shop manager and a veteran volunteer worship leader, Ryan is feeling pretty amazed that what was once just his passionate volunteer gig is now his full-time job.
“It used to be that I had family, work and music. But now work and music are one; the two worlds have collided. It’s pretty cool.”
Ryan said that the thing he loves most about leading worship is getting to be the airport shuttle.
Yes.
“I like to say that leading worship is like being a shuttle that takes people to the airport for a vacation. When you get back from your trip, you shouldn’t say ‘Man that shuttle ride was awesome,’ you should be talking about how your trip was awesome.
“As worship leaders, we shouldn’t be the topic. We should just be the vehicle that gets people to the experience of worshiping God. It’s a cool thing.”
He added, “It’s not about the songs or the music. It’s about expressing your feelings to God.”
In his free time, you’ll find Ryan writing songs, playing sports and spending time with his wife and kids.
“I like to hibernate,” Ryan said. “You know, wear sweats, play games, just be hanging out with my family.”
Looks like he came to the right place.
Welcome to Minnesota and to Eagle Brook, Ryan. We’re glad you’re here.
