Practical Atheist — I Believe in God, But Don’t Want to Go Overboard
The weekend of July 17/18, Pastor Jason Strand continued the Practical Atheist series with “I Believe In God, But Don’t Want to Go Overboard.”
A lot of people aren’t cold or hostile toward God, but they’re not hot or passionate about him either. They’re lukewarm. Unfortunately, Jesus responds to our lukewarm faith in the same way we would respond to lukewarm milk — it makes him gag. In this message, we’ll talk about how we can move the spiritual temperature of our faith from lukewarm to hot.
Three Questions About a Lukewarm Faith:
1. How do we know if we’re lukewarm in our faith right now?
Evalutate your life in light of God’s word. The question is: Do you love Jesus?
2. How does someone get to the point of being lukewarm?
Are you adding “cold water” (in the form of activities, friends, behaviors) to your faith, turning it warm? Are you unplugging from the source?
3. How do we get from being lukewarm to being hot?
Repent and be broken. Three steps:
1. Confess
2. Repent
3. Step toward Christ — Draw close to God and he’ll draw close to you (James 4:8).
