Reflections and Resolutions
I often use the last day of the year to thank God for the past and look forward to the future. As I reflect on this past year, I’m blown away by all that we’ve seen God do at Spring Lake Park in 2008.
The fact that we went from a church of less than 200 people to a high attendance of 2,168 on our first anniversary is due entirely to God’s magnificent work in and through His people. And as you know, it’s not about the numbers—never has been and never will be; it’s all about God’s work in the lives of people who are experiencing authentic transformation. And it’s all for His glory.
I’m honored to serve alongside a team of volunteers and staff who invest themselves without reservation for God’s kingdom. To see our volunteers smile as they serve and celebrate how God is working powerfully through their gifts moves me to humbly adore and worship our great God.
What about the year ahead…how can we see God continue to work in our lives and at our campus in 2009? Let me offer three suggestions.
Keep doing the BIG 3. I’m convinced that we’re most effective as a campus when all of us are consistently practicing the BIG 3. Perhaps this’ll be the year for many of us to take the next steps to become BIG 3 Eaglebrookers.
Develop spiritual growth habits. Two of the most important habits are daily Bible reading and prayer. Personally, I’m most consistent in my practice of these habits when I’ve got a support and accountability system in place. It might be a small group or a couple of friends I meet with each week. When I know I’ll be discussing Bible reading assignments with a few people, you can be sure I’ll come to the meeting prepared. And there’s nothing better than having a group of friends to celebrate with when God answers prayer.
Keep inviting people to church. To be effective, we must be intentional about communicating our faith and inviting people to attend weekend services. It’s tempting to sit back and relax when God is doing so much all around us. Fact is, God’s called all of us to reach others for Christ. And every day that passes is one day closer to Christ’s return. We can’t afford to waste time when eternal life is at stake for those who are far from God.
God’s done remarkable things over the past twelve months—I’m eager to see what He’ll do over the next 365 days.
