The Big Squeeze
God is working powerfully through multi-site at all the Eagle Brook campuses, but He’s really surprised us at Spring Lake Park. Who could have imagined what God would do in just one year? Our weekend attendance has grown from less than 200 to more than 2,000. And hundreds have said “Yes!” to Christ.
Some weekends the crowds squeeze into the SLP worship center filling every seat and spilling over into adjoining spaces. Recently a hundred people participated in worship from three different overflow rooms. I want to celebrate our volunteers who choose to sit in the overflow rooms to open up seating in the worship center for our guests—you continue to amaze me.
People ask, “What are we going to do?” Thanks to the generosity of those who support the God’s Amazing Church campaign, a short-term fix is just around the corner. For starters, we’re expanding the lobby by replacing the existing offices with gathering space that will double as informal seating for worship center overflow. The new space will be warm, causal and inviting—a place where attenders can ease their friends who are far from God into a life-changing worship experience.
In addition, we’re expanding our Kid-O-Deo space to accommodate the hundreds of happy kids who tow their parents through the doors each week, eager to learn more about God.
These improvements pave the way for future facility expansion. However, they’re only short-term solutions. For several months, Eagle Brook’s Leadership Team and Church Board have been exploring a variety of creative long-term solutions. In the near future, we hope to present a next step that will advance our multi-site strategy and make room for more attenders at SLP.
Almost every week I hear people say things like, “I started attending church for the first time at SLP. Then I invited my friends and family. And they invited their friends. God is changing our lives for the better. Thank you for your ministry.” And as newcomers express their gratitude, I can’t help but wonder how many more people will walk through our doors for the first time seeking God and finding Him. I want to make sure we have room for all of them.
