Today’s News

For those tracking the progress here, today was an interesting day. We met with insurance people and a cleaning company. It’s still unclear what the next steps will be, but to put it lightly, it’s extensive. I think it might help to tell more of the story so you all have a better perspective…so…here goes.

Saturday night I was talking with some people after the service when someone came and told me that we were having a drainage problem and water was coming into the gym. I went back to see that our facilities guys were already running the wet vacs doing anything they could to contain the “flowage.” The drains in the 2 bathrooms near the kitchen and the drain in the kitchen were all spilling water. Although there was no smell to the water, it’s definitely not good. Roto Rooter and a team of us managed to contain the water flow to a small part of the gym, the kitchen, the hallways nearby and the 2 bathrooms. We were able to catch up to the water when we got a few more wet vacs from our other campus. The problem was that Roto Rooter could not find why the water was continuing to spill out of the drains (hours afterward). I left at 10 pm and the team continued into late in the night – some stayed through the entire night. Apparently another resurgence happened a few hours after I left and it was clear Roto Rooter couldn’t find the problem without a camera to send in the drains. 6:30 Sunday morning I was called and told the drains were still not fixed. There was theory that a main pipe was broken or damaged or that the water back up was caused somewhere else that we couldn’t find. When we learned we could run no water or flush toilets we knew we had to cancel.

Monday morning they were able to put a camera down in the drain, identify the problem and solve it. I actually have some footage I might be able to put here some time in the future (I’m sure you’d want to see it).

Tuesday (today) – It looks as though we’ll have to pull out all of our new carpet in the hallways, re-tile the kitchen, re-carpet the gym and have extensive content clean up in the kitchen and in 3 different closets that received water.

It looks at this point that it will take a few weeks to clean up and to re-carpet. Events at WB should continue as scheduled, including weekend services, although our food services will be canceled until further notice. The hallway that runs between the gym and the kitchen will most likely be closed until we get the new carpet in – we’ll have to see.

We should have more answers tomorrow and possibly more timelines.
