Unseen Heroes
God is working in an unusual way at Eagle Brook Church, Spring Lake Park. Those who visit for the first time often say after a weekend service, “There’s just something different about this church…I sensed God’s presence like never before.”
The Bible teaches that God most often accomplishes His purpose through people. Whenever I think about the hundreds of volunteers who use their gifts to serve at SLP, I frequently pause and whisper a prayer of thanks. Every team of volunteers at SLP is essential. And God is working through each one.
This past week, with a deep sense of appreciation, I watched a group of SLP volunteers that typically serves out of sight. This team is on call, responding with little advance warning. Whenever we need them, they rearrange their personal schedules, get up early in the morning, and gather at the church to work on the project. Few people see their acts of kindness because this group serves behind the scenes. They are the bereavement ministry team that comes together under certain circumstances to prepare a meal for those who’ve lost a loved one. In my book, they’re unseen heroes.
Unseen heroes abound at SLP in almost every ministry area. They invest their time, use their gifts, and make personal sacrifices to advance the cause of Christ. If you stumble upon one of these unseen heroes, pause and whisper a prayer of thanks. Then, let the individual know how grateful you are for what he or she is doing to help make SLP a place where God is at work.
