When Life’s Not Working: What Are the Signs?
On March 19/20, Senior Pastor Bob Merritt kicked off a two-week series based on his new book, When Life’s Not Working. Part one was titled, “What Are the Signs?”
“I am well acquainted with a life that’s not working,” Bob said.
“Usually people write articles, books and messages on areas of their expertise, which is why I wrote When Life’s Not Working. There have been many times when my life wasn’t working the way it should, but fortunately I’ve been surrounded by family, colleagues and counselors who’ve helped me sort it out.”
What are the main signs that life’s not working? How can you tell?
1. There’s a pattern of relational failure.
The key word is “pattern.”
See Ephesians 4:26. Don’t let anger fester and boil.
2. There’s a lack of purpose or progress toward a goal.
You’re drifting. See 2 Thessalonians 3:11-13. Get moving.
3. There’s a desire to escape your reality.
Alcohol. Drugs. Pornography. Food. Is there a habit or addiction you are using to escape?
A critical first step to fixing those three ares is to face the brutal facts.
See James 3:2 and 4:10. When life’s not working, will we have the humility to bow before God?
